SURFER DIES AFTER CONTRACTING BRAIN EATING AMOEBA
Fabrizio Stabile, died on September 21st, after contracting Naegleria fowleri, known as “brain-eating amoeba”, shortly after visiting a wave pool. Link to GoFundMe
The wave pool is classified as a lake not a swimming pool and therefore doesn’t, or at least didn’t, have to comply to the same standards as a public pool
Signs and symptoms of naegleria infection may include:
A change in the sense of smell or taste
Fever
Sudden, severe headache
Stiff neck
Sensitivity to light
Nausea and vomiting
Confusion
Loss of balance
Sleepiness
Seizures
Hallucinations
