Successful shaper and longtime Santa Cruz stalwart Ward Coffey has carved out pardon the pun a fine legacy in an area renowned for great surfers, shapers and board builders. Doug Haut, Mark Angel, Steve Colletta, Joey Thomas, Bob Pearson, Doug Fletcher and Dave Aronovici and their crew – and frankly way too many icons of the surfing to mention here — Santa Cruz was and is a hot bed of talent. Ward Coffey has won the Boardroom International Surfboard Show’s Icons of Foam Shape-Off and been asked to participate in at least five of them… which is a testament to the respect his shaping heroes and shaping contemporaries have for him.
