KOOK

Huntington Beach for being the epicenter of rioting. This time it was at a Pro Trump Rally. Click to read the full article.

Bassy, Surfrider is not a “you guys” organization. Glad you got to the meetings at the Del Mar Fairgrounds to show support but, as Chad told you, if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. Are you interested and willing to get involved in creating the strategic plan or is it easier to point the finger at Chad and others and complain about what “those guys” should do? When was the last time you went to a San Diego chapter meeting? When was the last time you spoke to Marco Gonzales or Gary Sirotta at Coast Law (by Swaimi’s) about options?

Surfrider is a grassroots organization and, as you pointed out, each chapter and the activists who attend meetings and do the “hands on” work, put in the time, work on the plans and tactics, and donate have local issues that (although not as critical to the planet) are extremely important to them.

In the mid Atlantic region there is a renewed threat of offshore oil drilling; in Puerto Rico the chapter is fighting a massive development that will compromise world class surf breaks; in NJ they are fighting millionaires whose town has used federal money to renourish the beaches and who want to restrict parking and access; etc etc. Campaigns are being fought on every coast.

I appreciate your passion and interest in the very real threat that the San Onofre nuclear waste situation posses. I greatly appreciate your using the podcast to alert people to this potentially catastrophic problem.
I do, however, nominate you for a Kook of the week award for the way you did it.

If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem!

Keep at it amigo…btw – more secret information- the WSL has been meeting with organizers of the 50th aniversary celebration committee of the Rincon (PR) world contest. Barry Chruch (a great guest for you guys) Fred Hemmings, Nat Young, perhaps Fernando Aguirre (sp) and others are involved…
