Play

In today’s show we talk to Surf Aid founder Dr. Dave Jenkins. He explains the Mother & Child Health Project that he distributes through the remotes regions of Indonesia. In the second part of the show, David & Scott discuss the Hurley Lowers Pro thus far: Kelly’s insane 4 point ride, his anonymous board, Freddy P’s odd retirement, Seabass’s interference debacle, and more. Hi Dave,

Just an FYI- You mentioned that a wave is scored as 2 rides if a surfer rides prone. This is totally incorrect.

Kelly fell down in a maneuver, therefore he doesn’t get credit for pulling a maneuver.

    Continued…
Series one you probably need to excavate some background: Hawaii, body surfing, papo, olo alaia, longboards, shortboard revolution. Well, you are at the surfboard heritage and culture centre.
Third presenter: maybe someone like Richard Kenvin

    As requested.

    How to monetise DTL

In short you need to expand to a different medium. There is a dearth of good content programs globally and Google/Apple/Red bull/Netflix etc., plus national broadcasters need content.
Down the line is basically top gear waiting to happen. Just add a third person, a surf/fluid dynamics/surfboard design geek to complete the trinity.

A really good producer/manager to keep the content on point and flowing, plus researchers and technicians.

Add an anonymous mid ranking ‘pro’ surfer to test drive reviewed equipment. Maybe one of the girls on rotation. GPS speed track, plus scan the board/fins and run them through simulation software like Solidworks to get lift and drag coefficients and stall angles etc.

Coffee table segment to cover news/antisocial media/forecasting new equipment or video releases etc.
Interview segment and get a bunch of fire wires from Kelly so that interviewee can choose one and they are scored on a couple of waves.

You could also chase a swell across continents; have a ‘somewhere’ segment to a secret location; maybe an equivalent top gear cool wall as an alternative to the pro circus; Board design/shaping segments; new materials; review new boards and equipment; what they’re riding; alternative, hull matt, knee board etc.; historical back ground; Interview industry types, new project stuff; wave pools.

Everybody surfs, but most people are clueless.

Target audience geeks but also the general public.

Crowd source the first episode for some extra publicity.

Regarding possibly no Americans left on tour except Nat Young. Just wanted to mention Kolohe, as he was left out of the conversation. Although he could also not re-qualify. And of course the old discussion if Hawaiians considered american or not, since there are 3 on tour John John, Seabass and Keanu (not counting Freddy P.) But yes overall a sad picture.
