087 – Malcolm Campbell and The Bonzer

Play

In today’s episode we discuss the Bonzer design, the role that it’s played in surfing, and the surf world’s quirky social dynamics that sometimes push and often impede board design evolution. The Bonzer is the first truly functional, high-performance three finned surfboard design, and the Campbell Brothers introduced it a full decade prior to the invention of the Thruster. We bring today’s episode straight from the Malcolm’s kitchen in his home in Oxnard. Enjoy!

Duncan and Malcolm Campbell are some of the nicest guys in the industry. Innovators, generous and humble. The three Bonzers I have owned have been remarkable. 7 10 , 7 4 – 5 Fins and a Alpha Omega Twin. Great podcast well done.

I have pasted above the link to an Australian view of Bonser.

I ride a 9′ 5″ Southpoint SUP designed by Bonga Perkins. It has a Bonzer factory decal, maybe it should have had 9″ base side fins.
