    Hey Scott and David,

I really enjoy the show. Scott, I’ve been listening to Down the Line since Marty Thomas was your co-host. David, I’d like to commend you on the work you’re doing with Surf Splendor.

You guys seem to be working out the kinks and the chemistry between you two is getting better with each show. I found myself laughing out loud while listening to David’s rant on the lack of professionalism in our industry. It was obvious that Scott wasn’t expecting such a well thought out diatribe. The part that particularly made me laugh was when David railed Taylor Knox for calling Frederico Moraes, Francisco Morales. Hilarious, especially given the fact that Scott consistently butchers the name of any surfer who’s not from the USA, Australia or South Africa, and has absolutely NO desire to learn about them if they’re not on the CT. Even then, it’s a stretch. It’s clear that David is doing his homework by closely following the QS up-and-comers, while Scott would like to see a tour made up of Kelly, Dane, Joel, Jordy and maybe a Julian Wilson thrown in the mix (Matt Banting Who???). The play on your differences is working well.

I just wanted to touch on the lack of professionalism in our sport. I agree with everything that David said. If the goal of the leaders of our industry is to truly take our sport to the next level, we have to step up our game. The little mistakes are so blatant and occur so often that ridding ourselves of the Spicoli syndrome will be next to impossible. I think that the stereotype of ALL SURFERS in the eyes of middle America can be summed up on one interview:

Love the way Mason surfs, but C”MON MAN! His post-victory interview at Sunset was so hard to watch. Frank Zappa would cringe. One of the ways to ensure the growth of our sport in terms of professionalism is to somehow make sure that our athletes get a proper education.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

    Cody
